ASA Applauds Confirmation of Transportation Secretary Buttigieg

We look forward to working with him to modernize and improve America’s infrastructure, create good-paying jobs, and lead our country into the future.

WASHINGTON – The American Securities Association (ASA) applauded today’s bipartisan Senate confirmation of Pete Buttigieg to serve as Secretary of Transportation.

“ASA congratulates Secretary Buttigieg on his bipartisan Senate confirmation, and we look forward to working with him to modernize and improve America’s infrastructure, create good-paying jobs, and lead our country into the future,” said ASA CEO Chris Iacovella. “We are especially encouraged by his support for reinstating the tax-exemption for advance refunding of municipal bonds, a crucial infrastructure provision to help communities build back better, and one that we are committed to getting to the President’s desk.”

Last month, ASA urged the Senate to come together on a bipartisan basis and quickly confirm Secretary Buttigieg. In July, ASA supported House-passage of an infrastructure package that included reinstating the tax-exemption for advance refunding of municipal bonds. ASA also sent a letter to House Ways and Means Committee leadership calling on Congress to reinstate the tax-exemption for advance refunding of municipal bonds.

Additionally, ASA strongly supports the continued use of municipal bonds as a critical source of financing for infrastructure, affordable housing, and economic development. These bonds allow state and local governments to harness the expertise of the private sector to undertake public projects.
